CCI26 at IE University: Three Days Connecting Climate Research and Insurance

A year ago, I travelled to Edinburgh to present our research at CCI25. Last week, I had the opportunity to help bring the next edition to Spain, serving on the organizing committee of the Climate Change and Insurance Conference 2026 at IE University.
CCI26 took place from September 2 to 4 across two IE locations. We spent the first two days at Casa de la Moneda in Segovia, followed by a final day at IE Tower in Madrid.

The conference brought together senior insurance leaders, researchers, actuaries, and academic experts to discuss how climate change is affecting the insurance sector. The sessions connected scientific research with practical questions about risk, adaptation, mortality, and the future of insurance.
The final day featured the Climate Change and Insurance Collider. This closing session expanded the conversation to include industry leaders, researchers, entrepreneurs, and students. It included industry perspectives, presentations of recent VIG-IE research, and student projects addressing climate-related insurance challenges.
As one of the organizers representing IE University, I helped host the event and support its delivery across both locations. After months of preparation, it was satisfying to see the rooms full and the discussions continue well beyond the scheduled sessions.

For me, that was the clearest measure of success. CCI26 created direct and useful conversations between people who approach climate risk from different professional and academic perspectives. Several new questions, ideas, and possible collaborations emerged during the three days.
I am grateful to my fellow organizers, our speakers, our institutional partners, and everyone who travelled to Segovia and Madrid to participate. Thank you for making CCI26 such a rewarding experience.
